Miss Anything? This Week in Review

A look back at this week in Harrison news.

A new store opening downtown, a couple of political announcements and a look at the new home of Harrison football highlighted this week in Harrison news.

The new CVS on Halstead Avenue is now open for business after months of preparation. The store will hold-off a grand opening ceremony until August 8, but will be fully functioning from this point forward.

In political news, State Assemblyman Robert Castelli (R-Goldens Bridge) announced this week that he will seek a full term this fall. Castelli has held a seat representing the 89th district in the New York State Assembly since winning a special election in February.

West Harrison resident Mark Jaffe has also announced that he has collected enough signatures to appear on the democratic primary ballot for the assembly this fall. Jaffe will run against White Plains Common Council President Thomas Roach in this September's primary. The winner of that election will look to unseat Castelli in the general election.

Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Joan Walsh is rallying local support for new legislation entitled Energize New York. The proposed bill would give energy cost reductions to businesses in an effort to stimulate job growth. The program has passed in the state senate but has not moved through the assembly at this point. Walsh said she supports the idea because it could help local businesses in Westchester.

The Harrison football team will have a new home this fall as they will now host games at Harrison High School, leaving behind Feeley Field. The new McGillicuddy Stadium is complete with a press box, field turf and additional seating. Some players past and present did say, however, it will be hard to leave Feeley Field, which has hosted home games for several years.

Two local summer camps hosted a carnival on Tuesday night in West Harrison. The carnival provided games, food and music as campers, parents and councillors had a chance to enjoy a sunny afternoon together.

In sports news Jon Petriello was this week's selection for athlete of the week.
