New Ownership For St. Vincent's Hospital
St Joseph's Medical Center has signed a contract to purchase St. Vincent's Hospital in Harrison.
St. Vincent's Hospital will be under new ownership by the end of October, according to officials from St. Joseph's Medical Center, who signed a contract to purchase the hospital last week.
Although St. Vincent's, which is the only hospital in Harrison, has never stopped operations, it has been going through bankruptcy procedures since this spring. The small hospital has been in Harrison since 1879 and provides inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency tests for children and adults at its main campus on North Street.
St. Joseph's, which is based out of Yonkers, has no plans to change any of the hospital's current operations, but there will be a review of the hospital during the transition period, according to Dean Civitello, an executive at St. Joseph's.Â

St. Joseph's will now submit the agreement to bankruptcy court for the southern district of New York for approval. The medical center will also need approval from the state Department of Health before the transaction becomes final.
