Pedestrian Struck On I-287 Still Hospitalized

The man received life-threatening injuries trying to cross the Cross-Westchester Expressway, police said.

HARRISON, NY — A man who tried to cross I-287 in Harrison Friday afternoon remains in critical condition, New York state police said Wednesday.

Diego A. Maidana of White Plains walked across the eastbound lanes of I-287 between exits 9 and 9A at 2:25 p.m. Sept. 20. He then attempted to cross the westbound lanes, police said.

While doing so, Maidana was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet E350 van being operated by Brian W. Rodriguez, 36, of Stormville, New York.

The 39-year-old was taken to Westchester Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Five days later he is in critical but stable condition, police said.

Rodriguez was not injured in the accident.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Town of Harrison Police Department, Fire Department, and Empress EMS.
