Purchase College has earned a STARS Silver rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.

Purchase’s STARS report is publicly available on the STARS website.

With more than 800 participants in 30 countries, AASHE’s STARS program is the most widely recognized framework in the world for publicly reporting comprehensive information related to a college or university’s sustainability performance. Participants report achievements in five overall areas: academics; engagement; operations; planning and administration; and innovation and leadership.

“We are very proud to have achieved a STARS rating for our sustainability accomplishments. We look forward to the opportunity to continually benchmark our sustainability efforts and improve through the STARS program to advance campus sustainability,” said Angie Kim, Sustainability Coordinator.

This is the first official STARS report completed and submitted by Purchase College. The college has a long history of sustainability, dating back to 2007 when President Emeritus Thomas J. Schwarz was an original signatory of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). Since then there have been many advances to campus sustainability and the college continues to work on mitigating its environmental impact.
