Soon-to-Be Graduate Hospitalized After Car Accident

A 17-year-old Harrison High School student was taken to the hospital after crashing his car on Woodside Avenue.

A 17-year-old, whom police believe was on his way to Harrison's high school graduation, was taken to the hospital after crashing his vehicle into a parked car on Woodside Avenue Friday afternoon.

Police are not revealing the name of the driver because of his age, but said that he was taken to the hospital after hitting a parked car and knocking it into a home located at 101 Woodside Drive. The accident took place at around 3:50 p.m.

The 17-year-old had cuts on his face, but was conscious while leaving the scene, according to witnesses. Harrison Police Lieutenant Larry Marshall said that he is not sure of the extent of the injuries sustained, but said that they are not life-threatening.

The vehicle was traveling southwest on Woodside Avenue when it struck the other car, which was parked on the opposite side of the street.

The impact of the accident knocked the parked car, which was empty, nearly 40 feet, across Woodside Drive and into a built-in garage on the opposite side of the street. The Toyota was totaled and the garage was significantly damaged.

There was damage to the bumper of the SUV that the student was driving, but the airbags did not deploy. Marshall said police do not know at this time how fast the vehicle was traveling, but noted that there were no skid marks on the street.

Police do not believe that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Harrison High School's graduation began on-schedule at 5:45 p.m.
