Today, issues of gender, immigration, social bases of power, sexuality, politics are dominating the news. An upcoming event at the Neuberger Museum of Art featuring, internationally-acclaimed visual and performance artist Pat Oleszko in Defeat: De Fence, Detain, Deny addresses these issues head-on. Using satire, the artist urges us to confront our complacency. She uses elaborate costumes, props and inflatables, satire and absurdity to make her points. On Wednesday, November 6, from 5-6:30 pm, she will perform at the Neuberger Museum of Art. Be prepared for a unique and unpredictable evening. It will be an electrifying performance.

This event is being held in conjunction with the regularly scheduled November 2019 Happy Hour @ The NEU.

Pat Oleszko A pioneer in performance art, Oleszko’s world is populated by giant inflatables, visual riddles, and hand constructed costumes and props. Her costumed alter-egos voice what she calls a “potpourri of dissonant objections over rules, weapons, and the ruling crass.” Defeat: De Fence, Detain, Deny is inspired by the political climate of the past two years and will focus on the ramifications of the current administration's immigration policy. The performance will take place during the Neuberger Museum’s Happy Hour and is guaranteed to be a unique and unpredictable event.Defeat: De Fence, Detain, Deny is organized by the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase College, SUNY, and curated by Assistant Curator Avis Larson. Generous support for this project is provided by the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art and the Purchase College Foundation.
