$1M Bike Garage Added To DUMBO Office Building
The developers of 45 Main St. built 2,000-square-feet bike storage room in the first-floor of the building for $1 million.
DUMBO, NY — A bike garage costing a whooping $1 million was added to the first floor of a DUMBO office building recently, developers announced.
Two Trees Management plopped down the high cost to transform the bottom of their 45 Main St. building into a luxury room for bikes with 150-racks, it's own temperature control system, subway tiles and more, the Commercial Observer first reported.
Developers got the idea for the high-priced bike parking after asking tenants of the building — which recently added the headquarters of a famed architect — what improvements they would want to see in the spot, a spokesman for Two Trees said.

A huge amount of people who work in the building said they bike to work every day and asked for a place to park their rides away from the outside weather.
The majority of the project's price-tag came from having to extend the corridor leading to the garage from just a section to instead run along the entire length of the building, from Main to Washington streets, and moving infrastructure previously housed there, developers said.

The 2,000-square-foot garage has racks attached to the walls for commuters to store their rides during work, entrances on both sides of the building and special ramps with cutouts for wheels to make it easier to move the bikes around.
