$2.8 Billion Plan Would Double Size Of Brooklyn Navy Yard Site
The plan would add five million-square-feet of space with three new buildings at the site dedicated to manufacturing, officials said.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY — A new $2.5 billion plan would more than double manufacturing space inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard and add 10,000 jobs to the site, Bloomberg first reported.
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation's (BNYDC) project would add five million-square-feet of space to the site by building "vertical manufacturing facilities" at three spots, the company said.
"This plan is the transformative next step in the decades-long investment by the Brooklyn Navy Yard to grow New York City’s manufacturing sector," David Ehrenberg, president of the BNYDC, said in a statement.

"We are at the start of a multi-generational period of growth that in the years ahead will return employment at the Yard to its highest levels since the 1940s while fueling a continued surge of manufacturing across the city."
The new buildings will be built at the Kent Avenue, Flushing Avenue and Navy Street sites within the yard, according to BNYDC. They will have at least 75 percent of space inside dedicated to technology, apparel, food, home goods and construction companies.

The rest of the space will be filled out by businesses in the creative, tech and "innovation sectors," BNYDC said in a release.
The plan would add about 10,000 jobs to the site, bumping the total number up to 30,000 at the Navy Yard. Dates for when construction would start on the new buildings haven't been announced yet, but the BNYDC told Bloomberg they plan to fund the project themselves.
