Brooklyn Bridge Birth: Mom Goes Into Labor In Middle Of Street

Every woman's nightmare: a woman went into labor on the street in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge, cops said.

DUMBO, BROOKLYN — A woman gave birth to a baby girl literally on the Brooklyn Bridge roadway in the wee hours of Thursday morning, the NYPD said. The 33-year-old mother was in the front passenger seat next to her husband who was driving across the bridge when she went into labor at around 1:30 a.m., cops said. They abruptly stopped the car in the left lane of the Manhattan-bound side of the bridge, and she got out and started squatting to give labor on the roadway, a spokesperson for the NYPD said.

A cop car from the 84th precinct was behind their car, and when they saw her squatting, they called emergency responders to the scene, the NYPD said. The woman gave birth just 10 seconds later, and a minute after that, the emergency responders arrived to cut the umbilical cord and take her and the baby to the hospital, according to police. The mom and the child are both doing fine, police said.
