Brooklyn Lab Charter School To Open DUMBO Location, Report Says

The charter school leased several floors of 77 Sands St., which was sold off by the Jevoah's Witnesses in 2013, the New York Post reported.

DUMBO, NY — A Brooklyn charter school plans to open a new location inside a DUMBO complex previously owned by the Jehovah's Witnesses, the New York Post reported.

The Brooklyn Lab Charter School leased several floors at 77 Sands St. for their new campus, nearby their other Downtown Brooklyn locations, that will serve sixth through 10th-grade students, according to the paper.

The new 81,648-square-foot location will have a performing arts space, a cafeteria, student conference spaces and more, the Post reported. This will be the school's third location in the borough after their 240 Jay St. and 40 Flatbush Ave. Extension campuses.

The Sands Street spot is part of a six building complex previously owned by the Jehovah's Witnesses until they sold it for $375 million to Kushner Cos., RFR Holdings and LIVWRK in 2013, the Post reported. The new owners have spent $100 million in upgrades since then and leased space to WeWork, Etsy and others.

The Brooklyn Lab Charter School plans to open their new campus in September, the Post reported.
