Dumbo School Needs Your Help

The Dock Street School, a new middle school in DUMBO, is in desperate need of financial help from the community.

The Dock Street School, a new middle school in DUMBO, is in desperate need of financial help from the community. The Dock Street School, as its name suggests, is located on Dock Street, near the foot of Brooklyn Bridge Park. It is the only public school in DUMBO. It is also a Title I school, which means that more than half of the students are considered “low income.” At Dock Street, over 85% of students come from very low income families, including many homeless families. Our students include the Sheppard Sisters, who are homeless track stars that won the Junior Olympics and are Sports Illustrated Kids of the Year. We also cater to the needs of students with learning disabilities as well as children with autism spectrum disorders.

The Dock Street School offers a forward-thinking STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) curriculum designed to challenge accelerated learners in grades 6th – 8th. Due to lack of funding, The Dock Street School will have to end their hugely successful and popular music class when students return to school on January 3rd. This would be a huge loss to the underprivileged students of Dock Street, who have had the opportunity to learn from a world-class musician and express themselves through music.

We also need help supporting several of our other programs, including coding classes, Saturday Academy, the debate team, chess program, the architecture club, the culinary program, and a soccer team.
