Fly Kites At Brooklyn Bridge Park Festival This Weekend

The annual kite festival returns to Pier 1 of the park on Saturday, kicking off the spring and summer series of events at the park.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY — Hundreds of kites will take to the skies of Brooklyn Bridge Park this weekend as the park kicks off their spring and summer series of events.

The annual "Lift Off" kite festival returns to Pier 1's lawn on Saturday letting kids and families bring their own kites or buy new ones to fly over the Manhattan skyline, the park said.

Aside from the kites, the free festival will also have S.T.E.A.M workshops for kids — including how to make their own kites out of lunch bags and testing air quality — along with DJs, stilt walker, jugglers and a bubble show, according to the park.

"'Lift Off: A Waterfront Kite Festival' is an opportunity for visitors to experience the park in a completely new way," said Nancy Webster, executive director of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, in a statement. "We are thrilled that this unique experience opens up our 2018 programming season in the park."

The kite festival is the first of more than 500 spring and summer events heading to the park from May until August, the park said. This year's events include a six-week "Books Beneath the Bridge" literary festival, kayaking, concerts, a floating glassmaking shop and more.
