Kite Festival Returns To Brooklyn Bridge Park Next Month

The kite festival returns Pier 1 of the park on May 5, which kicks off the spring and summer season of events at the spot.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY — The annual kite festival kicking off the spring returns to Brooklyn Bridge Park next month with people taking over Pier 1's lawn to fly homemade kites in the air, the park announced.

The all-ages event will be held on May 5 letting people bring their own kites or buy new ones at the spot to fly, organizers said. The free festival will also have live DJs, stilt walkers, jugglers and a "large-scale bubble show featuring giant bubbles large enough to put kids inside," the park said in a release.

"'Lift Off: A Waterfront Kite Festival' is an opportunity for visitors to experience the park in a completely new way," Nancy Webster, executive director of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, said in a statement. "Between kayaking and fitness classes, our programming regularly covers land and sea; but at this kite festival, we want visitors to look above and take to the sky."
