LIU Brooklyn Campus Closes After Potential Threat

All of Long Island University's campuses closed Thursday in an "abundance of caution" after the FBI warned of a threat, the university said.

DOWNTOWN, BROOKLYN — Long Island University's Brooklyn campus, along with the rest of the school, closed down Thursday after officials received word of a potential threat from the FBI.

The university posted a notice on its website that all campuses would be closed on Thursday, Aug. 8.

"Yesterday, the FBI advised the University of a non-specific threat that they do not deem credible," the post read. "However, the University has chosen to act with an abundance of caution in light of recent tragedies in Texas and Ohio."

The threat came in over social media, according to the Daily Voice.

The university said that all student and employee residents will still have access to their campus housing. They asked that everyone continue checking their email and mobile devices for more information.

Four police cars were stationed outside the university's Brooklyn campus at 1 University Plaza around 9:45 a.m. An NYPD spokesman said he did not have information immediately available about the threat.
