New DUMBO Sandwich Shop Will Soon Deliver

DUMBO, BROOKLYN — Untamed Sandwiches, a new quick-service restaurant that specializes in making sandwiches with entirely sustainable ingredients, opened last week at 60 Prospect St. in DUMBO — and already has plans to expand its Brooklyn presence, according to the shop's co-founders.

"Soon we'll be doing deliveries and catering," said Andy Jacobi, a co-founder of the sandwich spot, whose first location opened in Midtown Manhattan near Bryant Park in 2014.

Jacobi is currently exploring different delivery providers, and will likely be ready to deliver door-to-door in about a month.

"People would come in the Midtown location and say, 'This feels like it should be in Brooklyn,'" Jacobi said.

A hipper spot in Brooklyn would be hard to find. The sandwich shop sits right next door to Etsy's new headquarters, which provides an eager lunchtime crowd for the shop's smart, high-quality — if somewhat pricey — menu. The sandwiches range from around $10 to $14.

"There is a density of people who care about what they eat," Jacobi explained of his growing clientele in DUMBO. "People here will pay a premium for sustainable food, but there are only a handful of restaurants in the neighborhood."

Untamed Sandwiches features a large kitchen at its new location that will also be used to stock its Midtown spot and future locations. Jacobi said his chefs use local ingredients when possible and work with butchers who they know have their same exacting standards.

The shop's free-range chicken and grass-fed beef "is trimmed exactly the right way," he said.

Jacobi, himself a Brooklyn resident, said he's been impressed to watch DUMBO transform in recent years into a center for creative types.

"How is it possible that this was just warehouses?" Jacobi asked. "I see this neighborhood changing quickly. I mean, it's the first neighborhood over the bridge."

Untamed Sandwiches is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week, and until 5:00 p.m. on weekends.
