Saturday: Stargaze With an Astronaut at Brooklyn Bridge Park

A high-powered telescope, soccer-playing robots and a skating scientist will be on hand.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Got plans for Saturday night? If not, feel free to explore the universe in Brooklyn Bridge Park with an astronaut.

As part of the ongoing World Science Festival, NASA astronaut Anna Fisher (she flew on Space Shuttle Discovery and helped operate the International Space Station) will be chatting with visitors at the park's Harbor View Lawn.

The event, which starts at 7 p.m., will also allow guests to gaze at the heavens through a high-powered telescope, and learn more about what they're seeing from NASA engineer Erick Ordoñez, who designs materials that can survive in space.

Also on tap: a skateboard demonstration/physics lesson from Dr. Bill Robertson (a.k.a. "Dr. Skateboard"), a light show put on by the National Museum of Mathematics and robots that play soccer. Let that last one sink in.

You can learn more about the event here, or check out the festival's remaining activities. It ends on Sunday.
