Tree Lighting Ceremonies 2017: Here's Your Brooklyn Guide

Events for those Brooklynites fond of Korean barbecue, Calypso music, and Dutch Santa.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Come soak up a bunch of holiday cheer (and gallons of free cocoa) during a slew of the year's most sparkly events. There are holiday tree lightings happening across the borough this month with typical Brooklyn flair — think calypso music, Korean barbecue and Sinterklaas. Don't miss out on the twinkly fun.

Here’s where to go and what to expect.


Fort Greene Tree Lighting

Where: Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park in Fort Greene

When: 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3

What: This year’s Fort Greene Park Tree Lighting will feature free hot cocoa and peppermint tea, as well as Brooklyn Sweet Spot cookies.

Dumbo Holiday Tree Lighting

Where: Pearl Street Triangle in DUMBO

When: 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Dec. 4

What: This unique holiday celebration promises calypso music from the Brooklyn-based steel drum band Jah Pan, carols, Jacques Torres cocoa and animated yule log videos projected onto the Manhattan Bridge. A Santa, excuse me, Santa, will be there.


Metrotech Tree Lighting

Where: Metrotech Center in Downtown Brooklyn

When: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 5

What: Brooklyn’s tallest Christmas Tree will be lit up at MetroTech Commons. There will be photo ops with live reindeer, performances by the Brooklyn Ballet, munching enjoyment courtesy of Korilla BBQ treats and hot cider fun courtesy of Red Jack Orchards.


Friends of the Lott House Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Where: East 35th Street and Fillmore Ave in Marine Park

When: 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 8

What: This is annual tree lighting at the historic Dutch farmhouse, the Hendrick I. Lott House, will be hosted by Senator Marty Golden. Festivities include holiday music, cookies and cocoa, and a visit from Sinterklaas.


Diocese of Brooklyn Christmas Tree Lighting

Where: Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Grand Army Plaza

When: 4 p.m. on Dec. 11

What: Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and parishioners from Brooklyn and Queens will gather to light Prospect Park’s largest-ever Christmas Tree.


Christmas Tree Trimming, Lighting, and Caroling at Marion-Hopkinson Playground

Where: Marion-Hopkinson Playground in Bed-Stuy

When: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 17

What: The Marion Street Block Association will host this hyperlocal tree lighting. Bring ornaments to hang on the tree and enjoy some cocoa.
