Video: Brooklyn Heights Car Break-In Thief Gets Away With $40,000

Police are looking for a man who broke into a car on Joralemon Street and took a backpack that had $40,000 in cash inside.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A man who broke into a car on Joralemon Street this month scored a backpack that had $40,000 in cash inside, police said.

The man, who was caught on surveillance video, used a four-way cross wrench to break the passenger's side window of the car when it was parked in front of 77 Joralemon St. on July 11. He took only a backpack from the car's front seat before running away, police said.

The car belonged to a 52-year-old man and was unoccupied when the hooded man broke in.

Police did not give details about what else was in the backpack, except to say that there was $40,000 in cash inside.

They said the suspect was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweater, brown shorts and black sneakers.
