JERICHO, NY — A Brooklyn man has been charged in a 2019 home invasion in which he brandished a gun and forced his way inside a Jericho home, bound a 62-year-old woman, then left her in a bathtub, before robbing her with two accomplices, Nassau County police said.

Detectives said that just before 2 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2019, 30-year-old Ilya Ibbott, armed with a small black gun, forced his way inside the home, and bound the woman’s hands and feet, along with two accomplices, court records show. The accomplices, who were described as “male subjects, wearing masks,” followed him inside the home, police said.

The trio then placed the bound woman inside of a bathtub in a bathroom, ransacked the home, and took an “undisclosed amount” of money, a cell phone, and a laptop, before fleeing the home in an unknown direction, court records show.

After they left, the woman freed herself from inside the bathtub, and called her son, who went over to the home and then notified 911, according to court records.

Ibbott and his two accomplices discarded “two pairs of red and white work gloves and a black doo rag head covering,” which were found and subsequent testing identified the DNA profile of both the woman and Ibbott, court records show.

Ibbott had been in the custody of the New York Police Department for “an unrelated incident,” when he was charged with the crime by Nassau detectives, police said.

He has been charged with first-degree robbery and burglary, as well as the criminal use of a firearm, all felonies. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in Mineola.

If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison based on the top charge of robbery.

Police said that Ibbott’s two accomplices, who have not been apprehended, are described as Black and standing about 6 feet tall with thin builds.

Detectives are requesting anyone with information about the incident to contact Nassau’s Crime Stoppers, a confidential police hotline, at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
