Excessive Heat Watch Issued For Long Island
The heat index, how it feels with humidity factored in, is expected to reach 108 degrees on the island this weekend.
Temperatures in the mid-80s on Thursday will feel downright cool compared to what's coming this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Long Island that will be in effect from noon until 10 p.m. Saturday.
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm are likely through the morning Thursday, but any storms will pale in comparison to the severe weather Wednesday night that knocked out power to 6,000 PSEG Long Island customers and sparked multiple fires.
Although an excessive heat watch has only been issued for Saturday, the weather from Friday through Sunday will be quite similar: dangerously hot.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside and when possible, reschedule strenuous
activities to early morning or evening, the NWS says. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.
