Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island

Strong storms have the potential to produce hail Thursday. See the timeline of when we can expect the worst of the weather.

LONG ISLAND, NY – The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island with stormy weather on tap for Thursday.

A line of showers with a few thunderstorms is expected to swing through area from the late morning through the early afternoon. Gusty winds up to 45 mph will occur, along with the potential for a few stronger wind gusts in association with the front, the weather service says. Small hail is also possible.

Any showers and thunderstorms will end quickly later Thursday afternoon as dry air will move into the region.

A wind advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Nassau County where the strongest winds are expected. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Minor coastal flooding may also be an issue Thursday.

The full forecast:

Thursday- Showers likely before noon, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 2pm, then a chance of showers after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. High near 60. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday Night- A chance of rain and snow showers after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday- Increasing clouds, with a high near 55. Windy, with a west wind 23 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.

Saturday- Sunny, with a high near 51.

Saturday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 38.

Sunday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 57.

Sunday Night- Rain, mainly after 9pm. Low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Monday- Rain, mainly before 2pm. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 62. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Monday Night- A 30 percent chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 49.

Tuesday- A 50 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 59.
