Hicksville LIRR Is Site Of State's Latest Vaccination Pop-Up

HICKSVILLE, NY — Following a successful pilot program last week of administering coronavirus vaccinations at train and subway stations, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the program would continue, and would be administering shots at the Hicksville LIRR station.

Last week, the pilot program administered more than 5,700 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at its first eight sites, which included the Hempstead LIRR station. The three new sites — which, in addition to the Hicksville LIRR station, include the 125th Street subway station and the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport station — will administer up to 300 shots per day on a first-come, first-served basis.

"More New Yorkers are getting vaccinated every single day, but the vaccination rate is slowing and we need to get creative to continue getting shots in arms," Cuomo said. "Incentives like those offered by the MTA are important tools we can use to reach New Yorkers who haven't gotten vaccinated yet, and they've been successfully implemented at eight previously opened locations. We're building on that success to launch three new pop-up vaccination sites at MTA station stops, expanding our reach even further and improving access to the vaccine throughout downstate New York."

The vaccinations at the Hicksville LIRR station will be available from 2 to 7 p.m. Workers from Northwell Health will be administering the vaccinations.

Additionally, there is another pop-up clinic at the 34th Street corridor of Penn Station open through May 22. Inoculations are available there from 3 to 8 p.m.

To help incentivize getting vaccinated, the MTA is offering free seven-day MetroCards or a free round-trip ticket for the LIRR.
