Hicksville School Budget, Propositions Pass

HICKSVILLE, NY — Voters went to the polls in Hicksville on Tuesday and approved the school district's proposed 2021-22 budget.

The budget passed by a wide margin, 684 to 313.

The $145,635,048 spending plan is an increase of $5,593,183 over the current year's budget. It came with a property tax levy increase of 1.94 percent.

In addition to the budget, Hicksville voters also approved a series of propositions proposed by the district.

Proposition 2 will create a $3 million capital reserve to pay for building improvements and technology upgrades around the district.

Proposition 3 created a long-term capital reserve, which will be filled with surplus funds from the budget each year for 10 years. The money will be used to fund further upgrades and repairs around the district.

Proposition 4 approved $60,000 for the district's Gregory Museum for educational services.

Voters also cast their ballots for two Board of Education trustees. Incumbents Phil Heckler and Brenda Judson ran unopposed, and received 724 and 727 votes, respectively.
