Hicksville Sears To Close In April

The site owner wants to build hundreds of apartments there after the store closes.

Sears announced which stores it will be closing late last week, and the Hicksville location made the list. According to filings with the state, the store is set to close in early April. After that happens, the owner of the site hopes to replace the failing department store with hundreds of apartments.

The store is set to close on April 8, according to filings with the state, which will mean all 179 employees will be laid off then. According to Sears, eligible employees will receive a severance and will be able to apply for openings at other Sears and Kmart stores.

The only other Sears store in New York that's closing is located in Kingston. Sears still has stores in Garden City, Massapequa, New Hyde Park, Valley Stream and Lake Grove.
