LI Teacher Charged With Sexually Assaulting Student
Apparao Sunkara, of Hicksville, is accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old student at the Infinity Institute in New Jersey.
HICKSVILLE, NY — A 67-year-old Long Island teacher who taught at the Infinity Institute in New Jersey sexually assaulted an 11-year-old student, prosecutors said.
Apparao Sunkara, of Hicksville, was arrested at his home at about 4 p.m. Tuesday. He was charged with second-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The girl, who is now 12, reported Sunkara assaulted her multiple times at the Jersey City school in 2019, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez’s office. The Infinity School is a public school for middle and high school students.

Suarez credited her office’s Special Victims Unit investigators and the Nassau County Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

Sunkara is being held on the charges in Nassau County, according to Suarez’s office.
