HICKSVILLE, NY — Heads up travelers: The MTA is suspending Long Island Rail Road service between New Hyde Park and Hicksville on Saturday. The change is part of the transit agency's "state-of-good-repair" efforts.

Switches at Nassau Interlocking in New Hyde Park will be replaced over several weekends, beginning Saturday and Sunday and then continuing Sept. 14-15 and Sept. 28-29, the MTA said. To allow the work to proceed, train service will be halted between Hicksville and New Hyde Park for 24 hours each of the weekends as crews remove two tracks from service, the MTA said.

With the changes, westbound travelers in Huntington, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma will have to ride to Hicksville and then take a shuttle train to Babylon. Eastbound customers will have to do the revers.

"There will be NO TRAIN SERVICE at New Hyde Park, Merillon Avenue, Westbury or Carle Place for 24 hours – and Mineola will only be served by trains operating to/from Oyster Bay," the MTA warned.

Customers are strongly advised to use the Babylon, Hempstead or Montauk branches on each of the three affected Saturdays.

Buses will be available between Mineola and Hempstead. Hempstead Branch service will run every half-hour.

For the second 24-hour period one track will be restored and service will be available, the MTA said, though trains will operate less frequently.

" To avoid delays and transfers, we advise customers to use alternate branches, including the Babylon, Hempstead, Montauk or Port Washington branches on these weekends," the agency wrote.
