Man Threatened Another With Gun, Injured Officer: Police

Police say the man resisted arrest when police found him and injured an officer in the process.

NEW CASSEL, NY — A man was arrested on New Cassel on Wednesday after an incident where he threatened another man with a gun.

According to police, a man said he was threatened by another man with a gun while on Park Avenue in New Cassel at 5:30 a.m. on May 24. The man reported the incident to police, and they began investigating.

On May 26, police say officers found the man responsible — 24-year-old Joel Almendares Valencia — on the corner of Urban Avenue and Prospect Avenue. Police say the officers tried to place him under arrest, but Valencia began to resist. After a brief struggle, he was placed under arrest. One officer injured his arm and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Valencia was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
