No Coronavirus Risk To Water Supply: Hicksville Water

The Hicksville Water District is informing residents that there's no risk to the water supply amid the spread of the Coronavirus.

HICKSVILLE, NY — The Hicksville Water District sent out a news release saying they're taking precautionary measures amid the threat of the new coronavirus, which has infected dozens on Long Island and closed down multiple schools.

With the increasing concern over coronavirus, the Hicksville Water District is reassuring citizens there's no risk to the public water supply.

"We want to be perfectly clear; the water supply is completely unaffected by the Coronavirus," William Schuckmann, the water district's chairman, said in the release. He added "Our biggest concern right now with this developing situation is ensuring our employees are kept safe as well as the residents who interact with them."

The release says the district is disinfecting customer service areas and solidifying all contingency plans in the case that their staff is affected by the virus.

"District employees are also taking precautions and are being advised on how to prevent the spread of any sickness in order to keep them and the residents they encounter safe," the release said.

Staff will not be entering homes unless there's an emergency.

"This is an airborne illness and cannot be transmitted via water," Schuckmann said.
