'Significant' Nor'easter Takes Aim At LI; Snow Estimates Released

LONG ISLAND, NY — The National Weather Service has released its first official snow estimates for a storm headed our way early next week. A total of 4-8 inches is expected to accumulate on Long Island.

"There is increasing potential for a significant winter storm/nor'easter late Sunday night into Tuesday," the weather service said in a hazardous weather outlook issued for the region.

The heaviest snow is likely Monday afternoon and evening. The potential for strong winds and coastal flooding is also increasing.

Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 12. Wind chill values between zero and 5. Northwest wind 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.

Saturday- Sunny, with a high near 27. Wind chill values between zero and 10. Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph.

Saturday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 12. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight.

Sunday- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

Sunday Night- A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Northeast wind 5 to 15 mph.

Monday- Snow. High near 33. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Monday Night- Snow. Low around 31. Blustery. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday- Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Blustery.

Wednesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.
