Candidates To Run For Islip Town Council After Redistricting
This November, residents will choose their representative for the first time since a new voting system was implemented in the Town of Islip.
TOWN OF ISLIP, NY — New candidates will on the ballot to represent the Town of Islip this November for the first time the town implemented a new voting system.
The town reached a settlement after a federal lawsuit was brought against Islip Town by minority leaders to overturn an at-large representation system in the town.
Under the new redistricting plan, the town has been split into four districts. Two of those districts will be holding elections this year.

Democrat Jorge Guadron and Republican Manuel Troche will be running for District 1, which includes Brentwood, North Bay Shore and part of Central Islip.

Guadron, who was born in El Salvador and moved the United States over 40 years ago, is a local business owner and President of the Salvadoran American Chamber of Commerce.
Troche, was born in Puerto Rico and came to the United States at 5-years-old, works a volunteer firefighter for the Brentwood Fire Department as well as a production manager at a local manufacturing firm.
In addition, incumbent Republican James O'Connor will be challenged by Democrat Darrin Green to represent District 2. The second district includes parts of Central Islip, Hauppauge, Islip Terrace, North Great River, Bohemia, East Islip, Great River, Oakdale and West Sayville.
Earlier this month, Councilwoman Trish Bergin announced she will be running for Suffolk County Legislature. She will not be able to run for council again due to term limits.
