Islip Boys Lax Wins First-Ever County And LI Titles

Islip High School's boys varsity lacrosse team has won its first-ever county and Long Island titles.

From Islip School District: Islip High School’s boys varsity lacrosse team has won its first-ever county and Long Island titles, and will challenge Pelham High School on June 6 in Albany in the state semifinals.

At the exciting Long Island Class C championship game, held on June 2 at Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University, a goal by senior Jeff Atlas with 7.4 seconds to go earned the Buccaneers the 8-7 victory over Cold Spring Harbor. Also scoring for Islip were Mike Bienkowski, Chris Giuliani, Joe Juengerkes, Bailey Kolovich and Jack Lizzul.

Guided by coach Keith Scheidel, second-seeded Islip beat Bayport-Blue Point by 10-7 in the May 23 county semifinal, paced by four goals and an assist from Juengerkes. On May 28, the Bucs won the county championship with a 6-5 victory over top-seeded Mount Sinai.
