Islip Officials Urge Residents, Businesses To Prepare For Storm

With Tropical Storm Isaias expected to hit Long Island Tuesday, officials are asking local residents and business owners to prepare.

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY — Islip Town officials are advising business owners and residents to prepare for Tropical Storm Isaias, which is expected to hit the area this week. A tropical storm warning has been issued for Long Island as Isaias begins to make its move up the East Coast.

If the storm hits Long Island, it is expected to bring 2 to 4 inch of rainfall across the area with locally higher amounts of around 5 inches possible. In addition, the strongest wind threat is expected in Suffolk County and the "timing for this looks to be during late in the day on Tuesday and into Tuesday evening."

Residents and business owners in the Town of Islip should secure lawn furniture, tents, outdoor dining tables and chairs by Tuesday morning. The expected rainfall and high winds may cause downed tree limbs, power outages and the potential for unsecured items to be blown about. The storm is expected to reach our area hardest by Tuesday afternoon.
