The block is where he raised his family, and where his children still live today. Guarnieri’s children and grandchildren attended the unveiling of the sign.
"He was selfless, loving and funny, and if you asked him today if he’d do it all over again, I guarantee he would, 100%," Katherine Norris, Guarnieri’s daughter, said according to CBS2.
Officials such as Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Islip councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen along with members of the Guarnieri family and extended family.
"Our deepest gratitude goes out to him and his family," Carpenter said. "May the dedication of this street in his honor, serve to remind us of the many sacrifices made by the men and women of our Town, the repercussions of which are still felt 20 years later."
