Local Residents Advised To Exercise Caution During Nor'Easter

Islip Town officials are warning residents that the inclement weather will bring high winds, road flooding and high tides to the area.​

ISLIP, NY - Islip Town officials are advising residents to exercise caution during the Nor'Easter hitting on Friday night and Saturday morning.

The storm is expected to bring high winds, road flooding and high tides to the area.

Supervisor Angie Carpenter advises residents of the following:

  • Coastal flooding, strong to damaging winds, and heavy rain are expected. Wind gusts could reach up to 50-60 + mph.
  • Use care while driving and avoid puddles whenever possible.
  • Move vehicles to high ground if they are in low lying areas.
  • Have flashlights handy in the event of power outages.

The heaviest of wind gusts are anticipated between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday afternoon into Friday evening.

High tide is expected at 10:35 p.m. Friday evening. Rain should taper off by Saturday morning.

“Our DPW crews have been out since Thursday evening utilizing all of our resources, moving water and clearing drains, particularly in our low-lying areas in anticipation of this Nor’Easter,” Carpenter said. “Public Safety personnel have been monitoring our marinas and flood-prone areas. I urge residents to stay indoors until this storm passes."

Long Island MacArthur Airport is open. Residents are encouraged to check with their carriers for information about cancellations and delays.

American Airlines has cancelled all flights until 2 p.m. Saturday, Frontier and Southwest are operating on a reduced schedule at Long Island MacArthur Airport.
