Long Island Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion opens 2nd BJJ academy in West Islip

BJJ World Champion & Brazilian National champion, Pan-American Champion Alexandre "Soca" Freitas challenges Islip residents to learn BJJ

March 7th, 2017. SOCABJJ at 187 Higbie Ln, West Islip is now open to Suffolk county residents that want to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from a world champion and legend in the sport Professor Alexandre "Soca" Freitas. Soca who has trained and promoted 54 black belts and over 500 students at his Wantagh academy in Nassau County. Soca is looking to make a positive impact on the lives of Suffolk county adults, teens, and kids through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at his new West Islip location.

Soca began training when he was 15 years old. Soca's older brother, who was was a blue belt at the time, had trained with Carlos Gracie Jr.. After spending many of his days surfing, Soca decided to go to his brother's academy and give jiu-jitsu a try. After that day never wanted stop, and he began to train everyday. Carlos Gracie Jr. awarded Soca his black belt in 1994. Since then Soca has won many prestigious titles such as 4x World BJJ Champion, 2016 Abu Dhabi Pro Legends Light Weigh Champion & elected the best match of the event, ADCC World champion, Pan-Am champion, and Brazilian National Champion.

At the Carlos Gracie Jr. academy Soca has trained with many world champions such as Renzo Gracie, Ralph Gracie, Roger Gracie, Roberto "Gordo" Correa, Helio "Soneca" Moreira, Vinicius "Draculino" Magalhaes Joao "Big Head" Paulo,Romel Cardoso, Mauricio "Tinguinha" Antonio "Nino" Schembri, Roberto "Roleta," Nelson Monteiro, Rafael "Gordinho" Correa, Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz, and many other champions.

Today, Soca has put all of experience to work and has dedicated himself to the successful Soca Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Wantagh Long Island and now in West Islip. This April, Alexandre 'Soca' Freitas will defend the -70kg title he won in 2016 at the Abu Dhabi Legends Tournament by beating Robson Moura. Soca will take on Baret Yoshida. The two met under no-gi rules at ADCC 2003 and now will meet 14 years later in the gi.

Soca is determined to defend his title and bring the belt back to Long Island again.
