Officials Release ID Of Man Found Dead In Water At Captree

The 83-year-old was discovered by a Deer Park man and his family who were crabbing nearby on Monday night.

CAPTREE STATE PARK, NY - A NYS Parks spokesperson has identified the man who was found dead in the water at Captree State Park on Monday night.

Raymon Jimenez, 83, of Lindenhurst was seen floating face down in the water off the fishing docks at the park at about 9:51 p.m.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Suffolk County Marine Unit recovered Jimenez's body from shallow water on the north side of Captree Island.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Deer Park resident Salvatore Caccavale was in the area crabbing with his brother-in-law and niece when they discovered the body.

He stated that they saw the body moving quickly from the south shore due to the high tide and ended up under the dock about 15 feet away from the three were standing.

Caccavale then called 911 who sent the Coast Guard and State Park Police. Caccavale, who has been crabbing in that exact spot at Captree before, described his surprise as to seeing a body in the water.

"It was traumatizing," he told Patch. "I was shocked, we all were."
