Sherwood Elementary School Tests Positive For Coronavirus
The student was last in the school building last Monday, Islip school officials said.
ISLIP, NY — A Sherwood Elementary School student tested positive for the coronavirus, the Islip School District announced on Saturday. According to a letter from Superintendent Ellen Semel, the student was last in the building on Monday, Oct. 5.
The school district contacted the Suffolk County Department of Health, who will conduct contact tracing and inform those who are considered to be in close contact with the student who tested positive directly.
"The district has confirmed that all prescribed health and safety measures have been followed within our school in accordance with our reopening framework," Semel wrote in the letter.

All schools in the Islip School District are closed on Monday for Columbus Day.
According to the NY State COVID-19 School Report Card, as of Friday in addition to the elementary school student, one staff member at Islip High School also tested positive for the coronavirus.
