USA Today's Best Small Airport Nominees: MacArthur Makes List
The Long Island airport is among the nominees for best small airport for the second year in a row.
LONG ISLAND, NY — For the second year in a row, Long Island MacArthur Airport was nominated for the USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2021 for Best Small Airport.
The nominees were released last week and voting will take place until Monday, Feb. 1 at noon. Winners will be announced on Feb. 12. Voting will be done on the 10Best website, and members of the public can place one vote per device each day.
The website stated that the local airport is an alternative for airline passengers "wishing to avoid the big, crowded New York area airports (JFK and LaGuardia)" and stated they "will find a peaceful alternative in the town of Islip."

The Long Island airport is one of two in the state to make the list. The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is also in the competition.

"We are honored to be one of the 15 airports selected by a panel of experts," Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. "We are hoping our loyal base of travelers and the Long Island community will vote each day."
The nominees are described as "smaller, friendlier airports" that "excel with their commercial flight offerings, easy access and amenities."
All of the airports in the small airport category have less than 10 million passengers each year.
"MacArthur Airport is working hard to provide an excellent customer experience," Aviation Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken said. "It’s gratifying that the experts participating in the USA Today 10Best Awards recognize MacArthur’s ability to conveniently serve New York travelers."
