Warm February Weather Sets Multiple Long Island Records
Islip saw no snow at all this winter, according to the National Weather Service -- a first for the area.

According to the National Weather Service, February 2020 set multiple records at its Islip monitoring station for warmth and snowfall. Mainly, that there was absolutely no snow.
This February was the first on record that the National Weather Service's monitoring station in Islip that saw no snow whatsoever. It was also the least-snowiest February on record for all major Tri-State area monitoring stations (except for New York City, which was tied for second). The average snowfall in Islip for February is 7.1 inches.
The NWS also said that February 2020 was the third-warmest February ever for Islip, with an average temperature of 38.2 degrees (the average temperature for February in Islip is 32.8 degrees). The first half of the month was the warmest ever, according to data from the Northeast Regional Climate Center (NRCC).

While there wasn't much snowfall, there was still plenty of precipitation. According to the NRCC, Islip received more rainfall than average this winter (the meteorological winter runs from December to February), making it the 14th wettest winter on record.
And that's because it was warm this winter. According to the NWS, the average temperature this winter was 37.4 degrees — making it the fifth-warmest winter on record.
