Brooklyn Man Assaulted 2 Cops In Queens Construction Dispute: DA

One cop was concussed and needed stitches after being hit in the head with what may have been a piece of wood, the complaint says.

MASPETH, QUEENS -- A Brooklyn man is facing prison time for allegedly assaulting two cops - nailing one in the head with what may have been a piece of wood - and a city worker after he was ordered to stop renovations to a home he owned in Queens.

Edward Wysk, 51, was charged with the assaults on Wednesday after he allegedly got physical in an argument with a City Department of Environmental Protection agent delivering him an order to stop renovations on his home in Maspeth earlier this week, said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

When police arrived to arrest Wysk for the assault, he allegedly ran into his house and sent an object flying through the window and into an officer's head, court records say. He injured another officer while resisting arrest, causing the cop to hit his hand on a metal scaffolding, according to the complaint.

"This kind of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Queens County," Brown said. "The defendant now faces a term of incarceration for losing his temper and attacking our public servants."

According to the charges, the DEP agent stopped by Wysk's home under construction on Maspeth Avenue near 59th Street on Jan. 23 at around 12:30 p.m. and attempted to issue a work stoppage order on the renovations because it didn't have proper asbestos reports.

Wysk allegedly ripped up the order and threw the agent's credentials to the ground, snatching the man's cell phone and throwing it against the wall when he tried to call police. He then allegedly grabbed the agent by his arm and shirt, before running into his house to hide when police arrived, authorities said.

When the cops tried to enter the home, an unknown object came crashing through the window and hit one of the officers in his forehead, leaving him with a concussion and a cut that required five stitches, the complaint states.

Wysk later allegedly said he ran into his house "when the cuffs came out" and was pushing things - like blocks of wood and a fire extinguisher - out of his way that "may have hit the officer," Brown said.

He was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on charges of assault on a peace or police officer, second- and third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and second-degree harassment.

Wisk faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. He is slated to appear back in court on Feb. 7.
