JACKSON HEIGHTS, QUEENS — A man was charged with murder for stabbing his wife to death Wednesday evening in the Jackson Heights salon where she worked, according to police.

Carmen Iris Santiago, 35, was at Tu S'tilo Salon and Spa when the man walked in about 7 p.m. and stabbed her in the torso, police said.

Santiago, a Corona resident, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she died.

Police on Thursday charged the man, 39-year-old William Rivas, with murder and weapon possession.

A friend of the victim told the New York Daily News that Rivas and Santiago were married for four years until splitting up earlier this year.

"She said that he was aggressive, and she was a little scared," the friend told the Daily News. "She said she didn’t want him to know where she lived."

Santiago did hair and nails at the salon, the Daily News reported. She is survived by two young sons.
