Man Who Murdered, Mutilated Queens Woman Gets 25 Years To Life

Chris Sobers was convicted in February of the brutal 2015 murder of an Elmhurst woman, whose remains were found in Kissena Corridor Park.

ELMHURST, QUEENS -- A Queens man found guilty of knifing a 28-year-old woman to death and burying her remains in a nearby park was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.

Christopher Sobers, 28, was convicted in February for the murder of Qing Qing Kiemde shortly after the two became romantically involved in 2015. A homeless man found the Elmhurst woman's body mangled and decapitated in Kissena Corridor Park that October.

Kiemde was likely killed on Oct. 10, 2015, the day before her body was discovered off a pathway in the Flushing park near Colden Street and Laburnum Avenue, said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Sobers had repeatedly stabbed and slashed her to death, leaving her nearly decapitated and disemboweled, according to trial testimony.

Kiemde, who worked at a local bakery, had met Sobers in a mental health group meeting at Elmhurst Hospital Center, according to the testimony. The two became romantically involved shortly after.

When cops questioned Sobers about Kiemde's murder, they found her cell phone on him, but all the data had been erased and replaced with his own information, prosecutors said. After her murder, he was also seen carrying what appeared to be a distinctive bag that the Elmhurst woman used to carry her belongings in.

Sobers was sentenced to prison on Tuesday for second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

"It is my hope that (Kiemde's) family can find some comfort in knowing the defendant will be locked away from civilized society and no other innocent woman will be victimized at his hands," Brown said.
