10-Year-Old Boy Killed, Mom Hurt In Queens Dump Truck Crash: NYPD
A 10 year-old boy has died and his mother is in critical condition after a dump truck driver crashed into them near LeFrak City.

CORONA, QUEENS — A 10 year-old boy has died and his mother is in critical condition after a city sanitation worker hit the duo with his dump truck while backing out of Queens driveway early Tuesday, according to the police.
The 40-year-old sanitation worker was turning right onto 57th Avenue near 97th Street about 7 a.m. when he hit the pedestrians with the back of his truck, knocking them to the ground, police said.
First responders rushed the victims to Elmhurst Hospital, where the boy died about four hours later, according to police. His mother remains at the hospital with a leg injury.

The boy, later identified by police as LeFrak City resident Shree Panthee, was on his way to school at the time of the crash, a witness to the crash told the New York Daily News.
The driver responsible for the crash has been suspended pending the results of an investigation, Mayor Bill de Blasio said. His name has not been released.

"We take this tragedy extremely seriously and the collision is currently under investigation," a Department of Sanitation spokesperson told the Daily News.
