CORONA, QUEENS — The parks department plans to renovate William F. Moore Park in Corona, according to City Council Member Francisco Moya.

The $700,000 renovation, which had previously languished on the parks department's list of proposed projects, got its funding in the City Council budget for fiscal year 2019.

"William F. Moore Park is a hallmark of Corona," Moya, who represents the neighborhood, said through a spokesman. "It’s a part of people’s routines here. They grab an Italian ice over at the Lemon Ice King and enjoy it in the park. The old-timers come here and play bocce ball."

The park's namesake, Marine private William F. Moore, died in battle during World War I, according to the parks department.

Moya's onsite scoping meeting is Tuesday, June 4 at 3:30 p.m. at William F. Moore Park, located at 108th Street and Corona Avenue.
