Queens Cop Charged With Choking Wife In Front Of Their Kid: DA

An off-duty cop was arrested Saturday on charges that he choked and punched his wife in front of their eight-year-old child.

EAST ELMHURST, QUEENS — An off-duty cop was arrested Saturday on charges that he choked and punched his wife in front of their eight-year-old child, according to police and court records.

NYPD Officer Carlos Marin stands accused of choking his wife and punching her in the face during an argument the evening of Nov. 18 in their Queens home, according to the complaint filed in Queens Criminal Court over the weekend.

The couple's eight-year-old child yelled at them to stop, the complaint says.

Marin's wife said the attack left her with bruises on her face, neck and knee and a scrape on her back, according to court records.

Marin, 27, now faces charges of assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.

His wife also received an order of protection against him, according to the New York Post.

Marin's defense attorney, Steve Barnwell, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
