Woodhaven Boulevard Station Will Be Made Fully Accessible: MTA

ELMHURST, QUEENS — The Woodhaven Boulevard M/R subway station is among a list of 11 Queens stations slated for accessibility upgrades under the MTA's upcoming capital plan.

The MTA's $51.5 billion capital plan for 2020-2024 will earmark more than $5 billion to making 70 subway stations fully accessible, including 11 in Queens, the transit authority announced.

Queens stations that also made the lineup are: Northern Boulevard, 33rd Street-Rawson Street, 46th Street-Bliss Street, Parsons Boulevard, Beach 67th Street, Briarwood, Broadway, Court Square, Steinway Street and Rockaway Boulevard.

MTA officials have named all but two of the 70 subway stations they plan to make accessible under the new capital plan.

The other two stations will be announced "at a later date," according to a press release.

Once the upgrades are done, no subway rider will be more than two stops away from an accessible station — a hallmark goal of NYC Transit President Andy Byford's "Fast Forward Plan" to modernize the city's public transportation system.

Additional stations were chosen based on whether transfers were available, "constructability" and ridership, the MTA said.

"New Yorkers deserve a subway system that works for everyone," MTA Chairman and CEO Patrick J. Foye said. "This historic investment of $5.2 billion for accessibility in the next Capital Program will be life-changing for our customers.”
