Elderly Woman Punched, Robbed By Masked Thief In Queens: NYPD

A man punched the 72-year-old woman in the face and stole her wallet while she was walking home in Ozone Park, police say.

OZONE PARK, QUEENS -- The NYPD is searching for the man who mugged a 72-year-old woman, punching her in the face and stealing her wallet while she was on her way home in Queens.

The woman was walking through Ozone Park on Jan. 11 at around 9 p.m. when the masked man snuck up behind her and put her in a headlock near the corner of 75 Street and Pitkin Avenue, police said.

The man then struck her in the face and grabbed her wallet - which held her Medicare benefits card - from her coat pocket, cops said. He then pushed her to the ground and bolted west down Pitkin Avenue.

The elderly woman was left with a swollen face from the punching, authorities said.

The NYPD released surveillance video footage of the man, clad in a black mask, black jeans, a blue hooded sweatshirt and white sneakers.
