Hit-And-Run Crash Kills Elderly Queens Woman, Cops Say

Gilda Lascano, 72, was thrown from a Honda CR-V early Tuesday morning and the Lexus driver who hit her ran away, police said.

QUEENS, NEW YORK — A 72-year-old Queens woman was killed when a Lexus ran through a red light, slammed into her car and she was thrown onto the pavement, said police, who were still hunting for the driver who jumped out of his SUV and ran away.

Gilda Lascano, 72, was in the passenger seat of a Honda CR-V driving north on 126th Street about 1:15 a.m. when the Lexus ran a red light on 111 Avenue ran a red light and slammed her side of the car, police said.

The impact threw Lascano from the Honda and sent the car, driven by a 56-year-old woman, skidding into a nearby storefront, police said.

The Lexus driver jumped out of his SUV and ran west on 111th Avenue, said police.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, pronounced Lascano dead and took the 56-year-old to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police were still looking for the Lexus driver as of 8 a.m.

The relationship between Lascano, who lived on 126th Street in South Ozone Park, and the woman driving her was not immediately known, police said.
