Gunman Killed After Opening Fire On Police In Queens: NYPD
Cops killed a man after he opened fire on their unmarked car in Jamaica, the NYPD said.

JAMAICA, QUEENS — Cops shot and killed an armed-man who opened fire on their car in Queens early Friday, the NYPD said.
The officers believed the man had been involved in another shooting less than an hour earlier.
About 2:20 a.m., plain-clothed police in an unmarked car recognized the suspect from surveillance footage, Chief of Department Terence A. Monahan said in a statement.

When they turned their unmarked car to approach him, he opened fire at the car near 156th Street and 100th Avenue in Jamaica, Monahan said.
Cops got out of the vehicle and returned fire — and one of the bullets hit the man in the head, Monahan said. He died of his injuries at Jamaica Hospital.

The two officers were taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital but were not shot, an NYPD spokesperson said.
Earlier in the morning about 1:45 a.m., police said that officers found a 26-year-old man shot multiple times in the torso at 107-35 Sutphin Boulevard outside of a bodega. That man was rushed to Jamaica Hospital and remains in critical condition, a police spokesperson said.
The suspected shooter was known to the department but his name has not yet been released, the spokesperson said.
A 9mm handgun was recovered at the shooting where the suspect was shot, police said.
An investigation by the NYPD's Force Investigation Division is ongoing.
