Man Murders Mother-In-Law And Stashes Body: Queens DA
A Long Island man has been charged with fatally stabbing his mother-in-law in her Jamaica home and hiding her body in the basement.
JAMAICA, NY — A grand jury has charged a man with murder for fatally stabbing his mother-in-law in her Jamaica home and hiding her body in the basement, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Long Island resident John Satchell faces charges of murder, burglary, concealing a human corpse and tampering with evidence in connection with his mother-in-law's death sometime between Aug. 21 and Aug. 22, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors have accused Satchell of repeatedly stabbing 66-year-old Janice Matthews in her house, rolling her body up in a blanket, then hiding the corpse in her basement.

Satchell's two children, who had been in their grandmother's custody, were also in the house at the time of the murder, prosecutors claim.
If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to 25 years to life in prison.
